I had a luxury German car with the same design fault - door would not open.
The difference is the manufacturer had a century of experience building cars - and they still make mistakes.
Also now I have one from another luxury German brand and it has the hated auto stop start system (thats 2 German brand I will not be buying).
However the point is that these have nothing to do with EVs.
