    I agree with nearly everything in your post, but I just want to quibble over a couple of points.

    I can afford to replace my hybrid with an EV. I'd dearly love to stop burning petrol, but I think EVs are not quite there yet. Your post describes where we are heading, and I think we will get there, but we are not there yet.

    The cheapest EV on the market right now seems to be over $30,000. The range of choices in that price bracket is tiny. MG have just hiked the price of their entry level EV. The Hyundai Inster EV is the same size as a Suzuki Ignis/Kia Picanto and is approximately double the price for the extended range model. I am impatient for price parity, and I am not convinced that EV makers are doing all they can to achieve it. Also, range and public charging availability/reliability are still inferior to what they should be. My impression is that battery quality is uneven, but evolving. 5 minute charging would be great, but it's not reality now. The gimmicky technology and nasty surveillance anti-features included in EVs also repel me, I'll be looking for ways to disable that.
