Variable tariffs already exist. Currently using a TOU meter, tariffs are Peak, Off Peak and Shoulder and with a harmonic triggered relay, fixed load rates for Off Peak Hot Water #1 and #2.

If the customer doesnt have an EV nor V2X, which applies to 97% of users, when AEMO starts charging for excess solar being dumped into the grid by domestic not just commercial installations, then people will turn off the system to save money or waste even more by running AC / pool pumps / washers etc to consume extra and will on occasion draw excess FROM the grid during clouds etc.

And like I stated facetiously, if the cheapest form of new energy is wind and solar, like it totally practically pays for itself yo, and like literally everybody is doing its cos it be cray cray not to yo! If the rollout is inevitable and net positive to investors, then the negative periods of NEM 5 min blocks will be more and more right?
