A full shift to EVs within the next 10 years will not do a thing to help the planet from a carbon emissions perspective unfortunately. In fact, it would be a catastrophe.
The notion that EVs are somehow a magic bullet to climate change is incorrect, and no doubt contributes to anti EV sentiment.
The people I know that REALLY love their EV purchase have absolutely zero interest or concern for their carbon footprint.
They are just in a fortunate enough position to be able to enjoy all the convenience of charging their car for free in the garage using their big solar system. He also loves the perceived "trend" factor of owning a Tesla at the school drop off (although it'd be way cooler doing the school run in a 911). He now despises having to stop at a servo to put petrol in their other car.
If the was a way that EVs could be perceived as a far more convenient and economical solution (and obviously actually BE that), and not forced as a fantastical fix to carbon emissions, there would be far more acceptance.
