I happen to hold shares in a company (Solid Power; NADAQ Symbol SLDP) that has a solid state battery in A-2 testing with BMW. Both BMW and SLDP have announced that the "Neue Klasse" is supposed to be released by the end of the year, and should have an SLDP-desgined solid state battery in it. It would appear that the new cylindrical cells might well be solid state batteries.
That said, they don't anticipate mass production until late 2025 or early 2026, but BMW built a SLDP-inspired line, to mimick SLDP's production line in Colorado, in Bavavia, and has been working it for a bit over a year now.
As an aside, SK On, which has a long term investment in SLDP (as do BMW and Ford) has just recently made a similar deal with SLDP, and is starting construction on a similar production line in Korea.
Solid state batteries are not as far off in the future as many make them out to be. SLDP is one of two firms that have EV SSBs in Phase A-2 testing with an OEM, and there's a French firm (Blue Solutions) that is already placing SSBs in busses.
By way of information, SLDP has no intention of being a battery manufacturer, but instead will allow the likes of BMW, et al, to utilize their IP to manufacture the batteries and pay a royalty to SLDP, while the only thing SLDP will produce will be the solid state electrolyte utilized in the batteries.
No advice given, just sharing information on a portion of the subject of the post I've replied to.
