According to the Bible, the 'Devil' is an agent of God. In fact the idea of a 'Devil' is a late development. Satan in old testament times was someone who acted in an adversarial role, Satan in Job came and went as he pleased, having pleasant chats and wagers with God, doing the bidding of God and following instructions from God. Nor was there a rebellion in heaven, which is another late development. The apocryphal book of Enoch mentions a rebellion with a Satan like figure, but is not named as being 'Satan' or the 'Devil'
