Sorry to hear about your loss. I have been through similar. The point you are missing is that contracts do not end with a a death. If there was a mortgage on the house, it would not be waived. If there was personal or credit card debt, it would be claimed from the estate. The same go with the contracts - you get the benefit of a lower price by committing to a longer period - and sadly this does not change with the demise of the person - it would be treated the same as a cancellation. Write off the costs and move on - this is probably the wrong forum to help you - unless you just wanted to have a whinge which you have done. All the best to you.
