There is no way it could have been nearly eradicated without immunizations. Nearly eradicated but not gone..

You obviously have no idea about how viruses and bacteria mutate into new forms creating outbreaks that are untreatable in the non-immune and non-vaccinated.

As you are not immune to it should just hope that you don't get it if you are ever pregnant as the outcome is never good. That requires that others get vaccinated so they don''t give it to you as you have no immunity.
That is the part you don't understand.
You will pass on the non-immunity to your progeny most likely.
That is why they try to eradicate diseases through immunization, to protect people such as yourself..
