Meant to add...if you speak to John again, you might want to ask if they have needed to upgrade, or indeed add further compressors to the mud pumps?
I am assuming a thinner drill string for weight reductuion at these depths would result in a shift of flow ratios?
Smaller diameter string means less volume flowing to hole bottom...but at the same time, higher volume between string and casing for bringing fluids back to surface?
Not sure of the mechanics, nor indeed the physics here...but one would think pumping the drill chips up through 4.5km of muds would not be an easy task? I know gravity will balance input versus output mechanics...but under a high pressure, high weight scenario, I assume the mechanics change somewhat?
lol...more learning for me obviously?
ANyway, the point is...I wonder if depth limitations relate more to this sort of thing rather than weight/torque related drill-string issues?
