The Hawaiian Islands and Yellowstone Park in the USA are classic examples of a large hot funnel from deep in the earths magma. Its some time since I saw a documentry on these hot spots, but the Hawaiian islands are probably the easiest to comprehend. Each island in the chain was formed above the hot spot. There is currently a new "island" forming under the sea surface right now. The next thing to consider is what moved. Was it the hot spot or the islands. It appears that the hot spot doesnt move at all, but the earth's crust does, over the top of where the hot spot is. It isn't hard to imagine where the next Hawaiian Island will be and by the same token, we can probably analyse where the hot spots were in the Byrah, Yerrida basins and other locations, but you need to find the first one before you can plot the following "islands". Please note I am not a geo, but maybe someone who is would like to comment.
