Continuing the series of great prospects on MCO land I have always been extremely interested in the evocatively named 'El Dorado".
Hereunder I selectively quote parts of 'Gold at Gaffneys creek".
The El Dorado outcrop lay in the same line but south of Wallaby. The 1st crushing in 1865 resulted in 16 tons yielding 448oz then 170tons yielded 4470oz. ( thus the name I reckon!!)
In 1866 1470t gave up 2071oz and grades gradually diminished until closure in 1869.
The dyke bulge measured 640 x 300 ft and lay idle except for brief unsuccessful attempts until 1894. where 96t yielded 270oz and 30t gave 238oz until yields again gradually diminished.
Overall less than 10000oz was taken from this huge dyke bulge which containede extremely rich but hard to find patches.
It is tempting to draw a parrallel with the A1 because of the similarities of the dykes, as far as is known from the scant surface exploration of the Eldorado.
Surface quartz was more prolific at the A1 but there too the gold was patchy below the surface and gold seekers gave up several times. The Eldorado dyke has hardly been explored at the surface, let alone depth. Who knows what riches may be locked up in that granite mountain?
And we all know what a prolific producer the A1 became, retrurning by far the richest average grade in the Gaffneys creek area.
There is a shaft and 2 adits at the Eldorado as well as tunnels as long as 400ft.
It must be an absolute NIGHTMARE' for management to work out where to turn next!!!!

    Cheers Mal
