Labor has 'mountain to climb' to form government

The battle for underdog status continues, as poll-leading Albanese rejects a suggestion he is confident of a win.

"We have a mountain to climb," he said.

He said since WWII, Labor had only won government from opposition three times, under Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke, and Kevin Rudd.

Whitlam and Rudd were both gone before their first term ended.

"It is hard for Labor to win from Opposition. That's the starting point here," Albanese said.
