"Bottom line: just as with the ETS, the government has set off down exactly the wrong path with the NBN. It needs to stop before it wastes too much more of our money. It has to build any NBN out of the Telstra network, and do so very modestly. To go back in effect to the (Sol) Trujillo plan -- but amending it so it works for customers and the nation rather than just for Telstra.
Tragically, there is now about zero prospect of that. Unless the Prime Minister is himself dumped: by party or electorate."
