Hi jogo, I'm not sure I share your trust in the details of the existing environmental permit.
If the history of the old mine is correct and it is flooded below river level (ie below level 12) I can't imaging how many hectolitres of presumably very murky water would have to be pumped out, and what that would cost.
Also the history says the average flow into the lower levels is around 25,000 to 30,000 gallons per hour.
I cannot believe NTL have a discharge permit to pump any of that into the pristine conservation environment even once, let alone on a continual basis.
Of course this is only a problem if there was any thought of going below Level 12.
