as each year goes by the world is becoming more cashless. utilities company sending customers spam offering them cheaper bills (actually, penalties to those that don't comply) if they switch to payment by direct debit - which many have already consented to. years ago, i used to receive a pay packet with real enough money in it, now, along with the vast majority, i don't. that is just some proof of cashlessness and it's trend, there are many more if you care to look. but many don't see this because these policies are implemented using the psychology of gradualism. also, as this is naturally disturbing, many jump into the first step of the usual grieving process - denial.
when things do not go the way one would like them to, often negative emotions are habitually summoned, so react with aversion and distraction.
the sooner we start facing our demons, the better.
