The wedding I went to on Saturday was in Sydney and a number of the guests had flown out from London, friends from our long years over there. All are in banking/finance and to a man were terrified. Europe, the general consensus, is a complete and utter disaster. Most expect to lose their jobs except a couple of the bond traders from one of the larger US firms who are market makers.

The property guys from Sydney were in disarray. They said they have massive numbers of listings and plenty of willing buyers but no finance. Nothing is changing hands because the banks refuse to lend.

The mining guys were suicidal. All of them are too young to recall the 80's/90's and none of them can believe it.

The older members of the guest list were miserable because they are all pretty much retired and their net wealth has diappeared. The holiday houses are on the market.

Needless to say, I had a great night out. Dui, wish you'd been there.
