We have Genesis, a Bronze Age depiction of the works of a supernatural force we call Jehovah, or God. Being supernatural there can be no possible way of describing the actions of such a spiritual essence/force. When Genesis, which is not a Christian scripture, tells us God Created, God rested, these have a relatable meaning to us, but it adds no meaning to God's actions, it has no relationship to God Himself, who is beyond any human comprehension. This is just feeble humans personifying the unknowable forces at play.

The Bible's author do hope to impart a certain understanding, but in human terms, because God's reality and understanding is impossible to humans. It is hoped that His creatures might at least have the capacity to understand the difference between a literal and symbolic, subjective language.

Just as when the Aboriginal tells a Creation story about a mighty snake that slithered through the mountains carving out a great valley. That snake represents millions of years of natural forces such as ice ages, floods, droughts and so on. Those who understand, understand, those who do not at least get an impression of awe and power as they imagine the snake.

Genesis serves two types of people, one who sees the great snake literally and the other who sees the billions of years of Will and Purpose acting upon natural order. You apparently see the snake, that's okay, what is not okay is to think you hold the only correct position when in fact you are yet to take a first step.

Genesis is exactly the same. It is telling us that there is Will and Purpose and Cause acting on natural order. A supernatural spiritual essence is beyond all human description, so words like rest are used only to impart some understanding in the human world
