    you're right.... even if we were, globally, to stop all GHG emissions today, the half life of CO2 is around 100 years, methane 'only' 12 years.... temperatures will continue to rise for around 50 years before the global average temperature begins to fall again.

    at this rate the planet is expected to pass 2 degrees above pre-industrial average so we can certainly expect much more severe extremes in weather conditions over at least 50 years.

    the reduction in ice formation suggests that we've passed a serious tipping point. ice melts across the globe are expected now to increase during that time. for years the deniers have been spouting the lack of sea level rise using Garden Island in Sydney Harbour as a measuring point. we might not likely to see Garden Island begin to become awash, but many Pacific Islands will have far worse inundations.

    I grew up in a coastal town north of Sydney. some of the land currently with built homes is at sea level now and any king tides have seen that land inundated with roads cut due to sea water lapping over into people's properties. that town will soon see the ocean swells breaking over the steps within 50 years.

    yes the die is cast and its going to roll sixes.
