I admit that I have not enough knowledge to argue about radiation concerns and the lifetime of alpha beta and gamma parts.
I was reading the IAEA-report saying on page one:
"(a) Many similar plants producing rare earth compounds are operating in various parts of the world - the proposed Lynas plant is not unique in this regard;"
Whatever that means, I know enough to state, that the existing plants are everything else but clean and that none of them is located in a highly populated area.
This is the reason why LAMP has become a public issue, I believe.
