the facts on spodumene

There appears to be some confusion as to the viability of spodumene as a source of lithium - for use in batteries. An excellent article on Lithium is available at: http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/commodity/lithium/450497.pdf

The essence of the article is this: Lithium Carbonate (as used by battery manufacturers) is produced from both brine AND spodumene. Extracting lithium from spodumene entails an energy-intensive chemical recovery process - and the energy aspect appears to be the only disadvantage when compared to brines. On the other hand, the process is no different from the chemical processes designed to liberate many other types of minerals from concentrates.

If you believe that Lithium is a fuel for the future then you can invest in GXY for their "ore" deposit or ADY for their "brine" deposit. As far as I can see there's upside for both companies...
