Germany's Energiewende is the largest renewable experiment in the world and even Der Speigel is now saying that it is failing (see the graphic in the below story). It has led to much higher energy prices and a destabilized grid, at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, and it has accomplished little. Germany's emissions are very much like they were ten years ago. Germans are unwilling to have more of their country destroyed by these inefficient and expensive wind/solar parks and the transmission lines that accompany them, so deployment has slowed dramatically. This is fortunate for Germany because renewable power only becomes more expensive as more is deployed (systems costs).
