It also helps to read Paxton's 1998 essay, "The Five Stages of Fascism" - ultranationalism, the state being absolute, extreme palingenetic nationalism, hierarchy (grandeur, masculinity, brotherhood), the lambasting of social democracy, liberalism and social equality, dictatorship, the beauty of violence and will, the adoption of anti-intellectualism, revolution etc. Lots of fascist style imagery in Europe of late, but more pressure groups that don't maintain fascist ideology.
Mugabe has been a primary example. Euro examples are aplenty but more right wing populist - eg. Greece's Golden Dawn, Germany's Alternative for Germany, Austria's collapsed Freedom Party etc. Greece's Golden Dawn is far more of a worry compared to the Italian result but nowhere near, not even close, to Mussolini, Hitler or Stalin.
