Fascism is at its core nationalistic and totalitarian.
It tends to be on the economic left (appeals to the poor, distributes the wealth) but social right (anti foreigner).
The current crop of leftists pretend that they are nothing like fascists because of socially progressive policies but share a lot in common. They have successfully got away with labeling right wing politics with the fascist label due to nationalism, but this is one of the greatest con jobs in modern politics.
