In part with the invocation of the principle of Divine Retribution,
A principle that was not long ago invoked by "Yehuda Levin, an Orthodox Jewish rabbi, [that] linked the earthquake to gays in the military via an alleged Talmudic teaching that homosexuality causes earthquakes... "The Talmud states, "You have shaken your male member in a place where it doesn’t belong. I too, will shake the Earth ".
The quake in question was the 2010 Haiti earthquake which killed a lot of people including children and infants.
Now, if we accept the proposition advanced by the rabbi in question as true plus the fact that elementary justice demands that we can only be responsible for the actions that we freely choose to do, then what would be the implications to be derived from that in relation to all those that lost property, suffer physically or emotionally or lost heir lives in the said earthquake?
Of course that you may say that at the eyes of God (who is perfect) human responsibility is joint and several (we can pay for the sins of others). Or that the rabbi in question is simply plain wrong. But either way that does not answer my question.
