re: why this gap will be filled. Tastarga, this topic is one that I do know something about. First, the technology is actually very good. It is very innovative chemistry, with a lot of potential in many areas. The essence of it is that the oxidation product at the anode is captured in solution as a "halex" complex, and thus can be used to oxidise the sulphides. Normally (say in normal chlorine technology) the oxidation product (chlorine) is released to atmosphere representing a loss of oxidant (a cost) and an environmental problem. There are critics out there, but usually they are not informed. In fact, many of the adverse comments relate to Dextec, a precursor of the Intec technology that was supplanted more than 10 years ago.

The large companies were intrigued by the potential of the technology, and (so far as I understand the position) did not pull out for reasons of lack of confidence in the technology. It was clear though that there was considerable further development work required, particularly in the cell area. I understand that this work has now been carried out successfully, and that the technology is getting very close to being commercialisable. Experience shows that the costs/risk of commercialising any technology are considerable, but the rewards can be very exciting indeed. The move to commercialise in partnership with IVN by buying into a project is a smart move.

So this situation is not without risk, and there are sceptics out there. However, there is potential.
