Skipping the 3D seismic looks to save Advent at least $3.5-$5M and a minimum 3-6 months. More importantly it doesn't stir up the environmentalists. As you said the well was drilled in 2010 without any environmental concerns. Getting approval to drill again without 3D seismic should make things easier for both NOPTA and Advent.

The Victorian government says there are 23 producing platforms in the Bass Strait. The issue is the majority of this supply is due to deplete in the next 5 to 10 years.

There will be opposition to PEP11 from the local environmentalists no doubt. But if 24,000 written objections couldn't stop Santos' Narrabri which is a whopping 850 wells and the Bass Strait has operated without fault for 50 years they will be nothing but a bit of noise and 15 minutes on the news.
