    Why would a CRO assume the inherent risk in failed trials?

    No, they'd want to be paid in cash and to leave the shareholders all the risk that the trial could be a washout.

    It's the same reason your hardworking CEO and BOD want to be paid in cash. Being paid in shares in a highly risky Biotech company is a mug's game. They are way to smart for that.

    Anyway they can award themselves with some nice bonus shares if the trial is sucessful, you know for all their hardwork for you.
