However, according to Rystad Energy, the upcoming halt in Russian gas transit across Ukraine is likely to result in a spike in European demand for imported liquefied natural gas in early 2025, along with major changes in how piped gas flows in Eastern and Southern Europe.

Rystad said in a report that Europe might need additional imports of about 7.2 billion cubic metres of LNG next year to replace Russian gas transiting Ukraine, and supply disruptions could occur sooner than initially expected.
