I heard it was a block of Alien "hybrid growth additive" that they use to enervate the crop with enhanced bio-psychokinesian molecules which allows the crop to be manipulated by energy thought waves.
The silly fellow just happened to choose a field for his crop forgery that had already been earmarked by the Aliens.
