Karoon planning seismic off North West coast

KAROON Gas and its Canadian joint venture partner, Talisman Energy, have applied for environmental approval to shoot 2D seismic over the AC/P8 and JPDA06-105 permits in waters off the North West coast of Australia.

In its submission to the Department of Environment and Water, Heritage and the Arts, Karoon said the survey, which is expected to start in October, would be carried out within an area of 2069 square kilometres to determine the location of hydrocarbon-bearing sediments.

The survey will be shot over at least one existing dry well and one discovery well for calibration purposes.

The permits are located in waters governed by Commonwealth legislation. JPDA06-105 is also located in the western corner of the East Timor Joint Petroleum Development Area.

The survey is expected to take 11 days.
