I think it's clear that in the example of zero point energy the writers of StarGate must have read the material written by various theoretical physicists discussing that topic, and came up with the Zero Point Modules (ZPMs) concept. Who knows, this may become reality some day too. One thing is for sure. We are just babies when it comes to the Universe. It annoys me though to hear from people even to this day saying we know all there is to know about the Universe. Makes me wonder what makes such people say such an idiotic thing. Ignorance yes but makes me shudder to think there may be such people in high places.
