Agreed unless one is a trader and will ride the trend and impose stop losses.
For me I am NOT a trader, my positions were set up on fundamental intrinsic values, before the market decided that what I am invested in is suddenly more popular. Hence I have my intrinsic value calculations as my protection. Very different from a late comer who jumps on the momentum bandwagon without any awareness of the true underlying value of the securities they are buying on momentum.
