Aurizon 'diversified' into intermodal trains for a while, but pulled out as it could not profitably compete against Pacific National and SCT, plus coastal shipping that pre-COVID-19 saw a lot of foreign registered and owned ships - sometimes flying a 'flag of convenience' like Liberal and treating ship's crews poorly - plying the east coast and especially Melbourne to Fremantle routes.
