    I don't know that is the real reason for the tappers and you don't know that either.

    Could it be that when the hadrian drops the brick a few cm above the surface, one corner of the brick touches the surface first and pivots, so it is not in a straight line?

    Look very carefully at the last brick placed on the second video, at 1:22 mark

    It looks like it might be at a bit of an angle judging by the shadow on the right. The boom is at almost 90 degrees to the line of the brick - the gyro would not help here - if anything, hadrian failed to rotate the brick the right amount (very unlikely) - watch it at slow speed - the shadow appears a fraction of a second after the brick lands (I can't slow it down frame-by-frame - it would be great if someone can do it).

    Time to stop this armchair amateur engineering and leave it to the experts who know much more about gyros than we do.
