I did notice the quote in your blog Graham. I must say I am getting more into it as time goes on, there are very few people holding directors accountable for their actions and performance.
The whole concept of a public company is that you have to release a lot of information if you want people to give you their money. This may even be a strategic disadvantage (doubtful) but it is compensated by the ability of being able to easily access funds from the market. If you break one side of the equation, ie information, then you can't expect the other side ... people giving you their cash.
Bit of rant, but it seems so often you get the "trust me" bs that then expects you to keep investing. I think increasingly companies are getting rewarded for being transparent and punished if they are seen as convering over issues.
