    SUD-KIVU / POLITICS: Hearing of the report on the illegal exploitation of minerals in Mwenga: Théo Ngwabidje seriously involved, the plenary votes for his arrest

    Postponed twice, the plenary of the provincial assembly of South Kivu has just voted unanimously for the arrest of Governor Théo Ngwabidje.This decision has just been taken by the deputies this Friday, November 05, 2021, during the hearing of the investigation report on the illegal exploitation of minerals in the territory of Mwenga.

    During this plenary, it was demonstrated that all Chinese companies exploit minerals without any legal basis, but also they are at the base of the destruction of the environment in this part of the province of South Kivu. revealed that the monthly production of minerals in South Kivu has increased from 300 kg to 1 kg / month, but also all the receipts issued by SAEMAPE are not traced in the field and this, under the cover of the provincial authorities.

    Governor Théo Ngwabidje is accused of being involved in this illegal exploitation of minerals in the territory of Mwenga for not having acted to put an end to this hemorrhage.On the other hand, in 2019 he lifted the decision of his vice-governor and interim governor, Mr. Marc Malago Kashekere, without prior investigation.

    By this interpellation, the provincial assembly of South Kivu wants to have clear answers from the provincial authority on the functioning of these Chinese companies which exploit the minerals in the territory of Mwenga without any document.In addition, the Provincial representation will want to know why the laxity of the provincial authorities in the implementation of measures to put an end to this situation.

    It should be noted that this plenary session took place under strong emotions, the provincial elected representatives who even went so far as to propose exemplary sanctions against accomplices in the illegal exploitation of minerals in mwenga.In addition to the arrest of Governor Théo Ngwabidje, the report demanded the expulsion of all Chinese in Mwenga territory.
