I worked for Telecom for 17 years. Then in 1990 it restructure Nationally (eliminating State admins) and I said to my fellow Tech's nothing has really changed. Just different people. Having spent 17 years languishing in a job where at the end of the day (17 years) I couldn't remember what i had done.
Then I went back to taxi driving. Can remember so much of what happened there. And got a fare late in morning taking 3 Telstar night shift workers home to the western suburbs. A good job for that time, finishes off th shift nicely. And remember the conversation, there attitude. It hadn't changed. Nothing changed. Just waiting money ona huge taxi bill.
Ever see people driving around on week ends in Telsta cars?
I remember so well having to prepare a backlog of Higher Duties report, so every time someone was on leave a desugnated person got paid higher duties. 90% of the time they may have known they were nominally doing the other person's duties, but didn't.
And then there were the hours I'd spend working out my Extra Travel Time. Calculating how far it was from the railway station, how long it took to walk the distance and calulating ETT to the minute hoping to squeeze out an extra 15 minutes travel time.
Then there was the projects! Ha. The hundreds of thousands of dollars reinventing, buiding and installing inferior equipment available from AWA. It was a joke. My life was a joke working for Telecom. But it was cushy.
And now? I want an internet connection. OK? No probem you might think. But no. Telstra charges $300 per extra gigabyte. Unwired, etc etc charge $3.00/GB.
Why can't Telstra compete?
Who ya gunna call?
Not Telstra.
