The 12 gem stones of the new Jerusalem listed at Revelation 21:19 are all anisotropic. Other precious stones , even diamonds , are merely isotropic. How did the bible writer know to only include stones with this characteristic which exhibit the colours of the rainbow when illuminated with crossed polarised light?
