If Jesus did not take a wife in His physical life why would He then do so as a spiritual body which has no gender, it is sexless.

This is true. So to speak of New Jerusalem as Jesus' wife is to be understood as being metaphorical. Man was created with the specific purpose of being earths' caretaker.
Gen2:15 Jehovah God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eʹden to cultivate it and to take care of it.

He could not accomplish this on his own, he needed a ''helper''.

18 Then Jehovah God said: “It is not good for the man to continue to be alone. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.”

In just the same way Jesus who has been given the task of raising mankind to perfection has 144,000 'helpers' that have been drawn from the earth. Their multicultural experience as sinful descendants of Adam equips them to deal mercifully in their role as kings and priests along with Jesus.

Rev5:9 And they sing a new song,+ saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, for you were slaughtered and with your blood you bought people for God+ out of every tribe and tongue* and people and nation,+ 10 and you made them to be a kingdom+ and priests to our God,+ and they are to rule as kings+ over the earth.”

Jesus being born a perfect man can draw on the understanding of those that have succeeded in battling their imperfections. Thus, we can be sure both the righteous and the unrighteous can attain to perfection by their obedience to God's requirements.
