cugs, there must be two Australias, because out here in regional Victoria, and the same applies in many parts of regional Australia, there is a real shortage of workers. That means that only a boss who is a real dill is not going to look after his employees when they are so difficult to attract and keep. I simply don't see it happening.

Many employeees have welcomed the opportunity to be able to negotiate the terms of their agreement to suit themselves. Not everybody wants to be just another bland 9 to 5 worker, many have other things going on in their lives and they welcome the opportunity to be able to accomodate them with their agreement. When you have young single people on agreements in normal jobs, able to buy their own homes as well as cars, things are not too bad.

Cities by their vary nature can be expensive places to live, that is the means of regulating their growth. Those with money can buy convenience, those with less have to do without those conveniences and live on the fringe. It has always been that way, and always will be.

Irrespective of what form of government you have that doesn't change. It appears that what does change is the expectation as to who is going to subsidise their chosen lifestyle. People are gradually waking up to the fact that most obese people are responsible for their own situation and if they are not going to take personal responsibility to do something about it, there is little others can do also.
Cities also become obese, developing the same sort of problems that obese humans develop, putting too much pressure on the basic infrastucture, life becoming increasingly difficult day by day.

If may well be that it is not the IR laws that are the problem people make them out to be. You cannot say that a person in a desk job in the city deserves a higher wage than a person doing the same job in a regional area, I think most reasonable people agree that there must be equality.
When you have the situation of it being more difficult to get good staff in regional areas then it is even more absurd to think the city based employee should be paid more, the lifestyle each person choses is a personal choice and a personal responsibility.
I can remember the days when one of the most powerful incentives in getting people to accept responsiblility for their own situations was the fear of being labelled a bludger. Now with political correctness it may be the IR laws that are taking on that role.
