Very critical time for someone to go.
Has finance been done?
Is Dave just worn out?
Are the new financing partners, if they exist, looking to influence management?
Is it to try and salvage a situation or does it mark a seminal change in the companies development path?

So far every departure bar one has led to an even more highly credentialed employee.
