I agree, there are some phoney "free marketeers on these threads who want to cherry-pick some items of the free market to make a point but ignore the role of tax concessions/tax avoidance plays in making the rich richer thereby increasing the wealth gap. it should be all about fairness and equity .
EG: take two Aussies: Bruce 1 : works hard and earns $100K P/A and is taxed on it as per the PAYE scale
Bruce 2: Doesn't work because he has inherited shares and sells say a bundle p/a yielding $100K capital gains.
Bruce 1 pays at least twice the tax of Bruce 2 because Bruce 2 gets a 50% tax discount . on his income (capital gains)
