You conveniently forget Liberals unity ticket on Gonski and wholehearted support for NDIS.
If my memory serves me correctly the NDIS was initially opposed by the Liberals but they were forced to change their minds as pressure from constituents was applied to local members at a State and Federal level.
The community supported the idea of taxpayers assisting families and individuals.
Federal funding for private schools had accelerated through the Howard years and was based on entitlement rather than need. Taxpayers feeling entitled to a return on their tax dollar no matter where they chose to send their kids.
The focus is supposed to turn to need but Federal-State politics got in the way and the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd Government had to negotiate separate deals to get State agreement. State Governments from the opposing parties collude with their Federal Opposition mates for political gain rather than advance good policy.
Also Gillard stated that no school would be worse off which the current Federal government is trying to change as they recognise that some schools are over-funded.
