maaze, Coz I don't think we can say that Dawn Fraser is the greatest swimmer of all time when clearly Thorpe or Phelps would've beaten her.
I think it is just generally accepted that heavyweights can beat every other weight division so they are naturally top of the pecking order. The heavyweight gets to take the "best of all time" mantel and anything under that is Eg. the best "middle weight" of all time.
You can't be the "greatest of all time" if it is obvious someone /many in the same sport would've beaten you.
