One thing is for sure...
The blowing in the Wind/Solar/Gas transitional dream is gone.
Cleaning up brown coal is/was the only Victorian transitional solution - with a touch of the above.
ECT's latest report is brilliant. Its an indepth report clearly directed at all objectors/serious insto investors... that nails the electricity cost issues that trouble people/business increasingly.
Fact is Victoria is predicated on cheap energy (Alcoa alone use 20% of Victoria's energy) via brown coal.
The figures offered by Coldry mean only a 13% increase in electricity costs...and a massive 40% reductions in emissions.
The nearest rival is Environment Victoria's Plan
(Gas & Wind) plan which will increase costs by 99%. Unsustainable in anyones language.
Admittedly, their emissions will be 0.27 as opposed to Coldry's initial 0.75....which with potential partering MBD algae it will be negated to near zero.
As a "transitional" measure - is that not compelling? Would Alcoa/Ford etc accept/promote that?
Black coal/nat gas prices will be increasingly tied to the POO as time goes on. Brown coal prices will be relatively stable for the next 50 years...hugely attractive to both Tincom and local power providers trying to minimise long term electicity costs.
The report focuses on the only two realistic proposals out there - Coldry-USC Solution or Environment Victoria Plan(Gas & Wind)
The detail indicates enormous work that ECT are VERY confident to sell Coldry locally and worldwide. The figures are very compelling.
The negitive I saw was the zero mension of the Coldry water benefits.
Also, I would like to see pre-combustion Coldry partnered with post-combustion MBD Energy algae. Its a no brainer between two mutually beneficial coys.... and Id be surprised if discussions are not taking place. CCS is silly when you look at these two proven techs together. Wait until MBD is listed.
Do LYP have innovation techs to deal with the emission/cost issue? Yes... ECT and MBD primarily - LYP/Alcoa/GEAC have a vested interest do they not in making brown coal susainable? Did LYP make these committments lightly? Anyone checked out MBD's CSI and Chairman?
Anyway - its a landmark report by ECT - but short term lets see if Tincoms "imminent" or ECT's Dec 24 deadlines are met?
