"Just out of interest - does anyone prefer to read novels by a person of their own gender? "

An interesting question. I don't have a preference on gender. Good and bad writers of both genders.

For me, choice of reading material depends on mood and circumstances. Sometimes crime fiction just hits the spot (great read I've just finished is "Bitter Wash Road" by Garry Disher) . Similarly, can't wait for the once a year new release by Lee Child in his "Reacher" series.

But at other times, a female writer like Helen Garner (whose work seems to be minimal these days), Anita Schreve, Alice Munro.

I'm just about to start on Tim Winton's latest, "Eyrie".

Thanks to the posters who have taken the time to offer a synopsis of their chosen books.
