Australians need to reject so-called humor that unfairly targets, denigrates, objectifies, stigmatises and discriminates against other people.
Our media and our pollies should set the example for others to follow. Sadly; they have failed miserably in this regard.
Although I don't know what was said by the comedian at that Union Dinner; I acknowledge that the comments have been widely condemned and that even the comedian and his company have apologised.
All of the 'Labor heavyweights' present have condemned the failed joke but some demeaned themselves by remaining present afterwards and without voicing their objections until sometime later - our DPM, Wayne Swan, in particular!
I've been at performances in China where offending and sub-standard artists are booed off the stage; Australians should do the same!
