    we like the perrenial lucerne,as the main root system hangs on over the dry time, then can kick into production as soon as conditions improve.the idea that the engine that drives the plant can be up and running from the time of the break,and get to full ground cover rapidly,that is a good one.being able to control the plant and push the frost window out,by opening the gate and pruning it with sheep,that works.

    the 'establish once,harvest multiple times also seems attractive'.

    the wattle seed industry never took off, but a short lived perrenial that produces a tonne a hectare of seeds,from a native plant,almost sandlewood in attractiveness. saltbush would justify funded research as well,the only thing they can get funding for is the below ground lignotuber part of the plant for carbon sequestration,the above groung food production is non pc.
