As far as I understand, they created sheep (by modifying the zygote with a virus) that would - genetically - have abnormally high levels of FGF5s to see if that would affect their wool as expected. And it worked.
So one way to increase wool would be genetically modified sheep. The other way would be to find a drug that would likewise result in overexpressed FGF5s. Combine that with inhibiting FGF5 (not FGF5s) and you may well have sth even more effective.
I actually find it interesting that overexpressing FGF5s results in more wool. Maybe something to look at for future évolis versions, too?
