The Human Condition

One of the chief elements of the Human Condition is mortality and our ever-present awareness of it.

The natural way to cater to this is procreation; that is to have kids that look like us and that we see ourselves
being perpetuated in these kits and so on ad infinitum.

But mankind was not content with this anamilistic and quite natural perception . Instead we drummed up the notion (some would say the fantacy) of a God and that we are made in God's likeness via, wait for it, our soul
which like God is immortal will simply live forever. Fantastic idea; you'd wonder what these ancients were on?
    Perhaps it was mushroom season.

And like the TV ad that says there's more, so there was more with God and our Godlike souls
that lived forever. There was Religion that added the terms and conditions. Institutionilised
self-perpetuation...eh... with a social regulatory twist thrown in !

Then out of the dark ages came the Enlightenment and another great idea of self-perpetuation
to overcome death appeared like a light over a bog.........Self Perpetuation by 'plastic" means. Just get out there and build a monument,
or do a Michaelanglo and slap a bit of paint on a church ceiling or compose an enchanting piece of music
or, God forbid, write a book, and there you have it folks. Death conquered by leaving something after one which will last a 1000 years (dont mention the Third Reich!)

But of course, folks, the Human Condition doesn't rest on its Laurels. Never, never, never, as Shakespere said. We now have swallowed science and the scientific method which says show me the sensible evidence, Sam?
And guess what, humanity has gone the full circle in its quest to avoid death and death's dismal finality.

Just lie back and imagine that this is your last breath and that you are 'brown bread", dead, dead, dead.
What does your scientific mind tell you? You know what I mean!!!!!!!
    Cheers
